The Government of Tajikistan initiated the “Dushanbe Water Process” as a contribution to the UN Water Action Decade 2018-2028. With a series of conferences, Tajikistan provides a platform for policy dialogue, partnership and action. The First High-level International Conference was held in Dushanbe in June 2018 and concluded with recommendations to the UN HLPF on Sustainable Development in 2018, for its in-depth review of the implementation of SDG 6.
The Second High-level International Conference will take place from 6 to 9 June 2022 and focuses on “Catalyzing water action and partnership at the local, national, regional and global levels”. It particularly emphasizes water-smart recovery in the post-COVID world.
As a co-host of the UN 2023 Water Conference on the Midterm Review of the Water Action Decade, Tajikistan’s Second High-level International Conference is considered as an official preparatory event, alongside other conferences such as the Bonn Water Dialogues for Results, the Ninth World Water Forum, the Asia-Pacific Water Summit or the High-level Symposium on Water during the UN Ocean Conference.
